Day 6 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup was an historic one for Asian football as the Philippines recorded their first ever victory at a World Cup with a thrilling 1-0 win over New Zealand in Wellington.
Our man following the Filipinas, Ryan Fenix, reports from Wellington, while Michael Church was at the Sydney Football Stadium to witness Korea Republic’s disappointing start as they lost 2-0 to Colombia.
Back in Adelaide, meanwhile, Paul Williams is joined by Nano & Yuka Sasaki, sisters from Shizuoka in Japan, who are now both playing locally in Adelaide, with Nano also featuring for Adelaide United in the A-League Women’s competition.
They share their thoughts on Japan’s 5-0 win over Zambia, memories of Japan’s World Cup triumph in 2011 and their own journey from Shizuoka to Adelaide.
